Setlakalane_Molepo-_webSetlakalane Molepo

Managing Director, Khula Enterprise Finance

Having paved the way to its position as a leader in the provision of finance and mentorship services to the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, Khula Enterprise Finance Ltd has appointed a new MD, Setlakalane Molepo, who is set to move the organisation to the next level.

No stranger to the SME sector, having cut his teeth within several engineering firms, Molepo has garnered extensive experience - more recently as head of the Metal, Transport and Machinery Products Strategic Business Unit -- through his 10-year tenure at the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). In the last two years, as head of the unit, he managed development-oriented on-balance-sheet funds to enable the IDC to accomplish its developmental mandate, namely development of the SME sector.

He grew the portfolio of approximately R450 million  over an eight-year period to around R800 million, with commitments of well over R1.5 billion. He also managed approximately R59 million off-balance-sheet funds and a second round of funds for R50 million called Risk Capital Facility. These funds were earmarked for the development of the SME sector owned by black economic empowerment or historically disadvantaged individuals with a primary focus on job creation.

Although Molepo’s training is rooted in the engineering discipline, he also received formal training at graduate business schools and development finance institutions, which led to his passion for the SME sector.

Molepo is a member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), and is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
