Criteria Individual

This award is bestowed upon a new BBBEE business arena entrant, whose new enterprise progress over the last 18 months can demonstrate exceptional progress in the following areas:

  • Must be more than 50% black owned.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial skill and flair.
  • Is achieving a minimum of break even or profit, with a turnover of less than R400 000.00 per annum.
  • Must be a job creating entity.
  • Proof of corporate social investment initiatives.
  • Exhibit uniqueness, innovation as well as industry thought leadership.
  • Demonstrate perseverance, endurance and accountability.
  • Be a catalyst for economic development and growth through projects and enterprises.

This award is bestowed upon a candidate who is a majority owner, partner, or major shareholder providing active day-to-day management for a for-profit business and will be judged in the following areas:

  • The candidate must have demonstrated original entrepreneurship and leadership evidenced by diversification, creativity, and imagination in the development of new products, services and new markets.
  • The candidate and his/her business must have been established locally for at least three (3) years.
  • Company must demonstrate profitable growth in sales , unit volume and creation of new jobs
  • The candidate and his/her company will also have demonstrated staying power and positive response to adversity in a changing business environment.
  • The candidate and his/her company will have demonstrated community involvement and commitment to specific community projects.
  • The conduct of the company must be above reproach with regard to ethics, quality, service, and the development of its human resources.
  • It must project a positive brand image.

This award celebrates young entrepreneurs of today doing the business of tomorrow. This award is presented to the entrepreneur doing business in a new, cutting
edge arena (21st century-driven industry and sound business model a must).
Only those ages 21 to 35 as of the award submission deadline are eligible for the award.

  • Young, dynamic, innovative businesswoman or businessman
  • Achieved excellence in the last two years in industry or commerce
  • Shown exceptional entrepreneurial skill and flair
  • Exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment
  • Believe in empowerment and being a role model for the youth

This award recognises an entrepreneur who via their business, demonstrated a commitment to community development through innovation, creativity, integrity, a proven record of achievement and involvement, leadership, perseverance and endurance and will be judged on the following:

  • The nominated entrepreneur must have a minimum of three (3) years of active involvement in community building.
  • Must show commitment to community development through the improvement of the quality of life in communities in one of the following areas: (1) EMPERORS PALACE 20 OCTOBER 2017 2013 education, (2)health, (3)sport and recreation, (5)environment, (6)job creation, (7)skills development and (8)crime prevention.
  • Inspire and encourage others to follow the example in community building.
  • Demonstrate involvement in grooming and mentoring in their areas of expertise
  • Be an active leader in his or her community who has made a positive difference in areas such as human rights, multiculturalism and community-building

This Award recognises an individual or organisation that has demonstrated exceptional ability and commitment to guiding and mentoring emerging entrepreneurs or businesses and can provide evidence of:

  • Mentoring processes or programmes with a clear outline of mentoring interventions
  • Number of mentees falling within the previously disadvantaged individual (PDI)groups
  • Impact of mentoring process and programme outcomes
  • Serving as a positive role model for emerging entrepreneurs

This Award is given to one of the winners who:

  • Shows exceptional vision for SA
  • Shows strong leadership qualities
  • Shows proven leadership ability in bridging the gap between business and commerce
  • Creates jobs through business development
  • Impacts the business world and the community through ability, hard work and dedication
  • Leads by example and is able to turn the company around through innovative and inspiring vision
  • Has a track record of profitable trading and acquisition
  • Leads by example -through innovative & inspiring vision
  • Must have broken barriers, gained new ground, established and set higher standards
  • Must be a strong leader and an exceptional visionary in leading staff, peers and the general public to a brighter future for our country

Acknowledges a man or woman who has made a significant impact in the public sector and satisfied the following criteria:

  • Has demonstrated commitment to the advancement of excellence within the public sector
  • Has by means of their public office furthered the interests of South Africans through innovation, creativity and integrity
  • Has a proven record of achievement and involvement, leadership, perseverance and endurance
  • Has been actively involved in the public sector for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Has demonstrably influenced a specific department in one of the following areas: (1) education, (2) health, (3) sport and recreation, (4) environment, (5) job creation, (6) skills development and (7) crime prevention
  • Self-evidently inspires and encourages others to strive for excellence.

Criteria Organisation

For the organisation that is a role model in the following areas:

  • Must have an annual turnover of more than R35 million
  • Must be more than 50% black owned
  • Must have been operational for at least five (5) years, be profitable and have an established client base/service and contributing towards overall transformation in all spheres of the company structure.
  • Must clearly demonstrate its contribution to the skills development of its employees
  • Must show active involvement of black participants in executive decisionmaking
  • Must show how the company has contributed towards enterprise development
  • Must demonstrate its involvement in socio-economic development initiatives, projects or programmes
  • Must stand out from other businesses in ability to implement a sound vision for the future.
  • Must utilise business practices that empower staff and communities
  • Adherence to good corporate governance
  • Must demonstrate leadership in transformation

The best employer award is bestowed on an employer who engages and encourages employees to strive for excellence by means of the following platforms:

  • A robust skills development programme
  • A successful CSI employee engagement programme
  • An engaging and open culture Commitment to employee personal and career development

For a business established in the last 36 months and judged on the following:

  • Must have an annual turnover of less than R4 million
  • Must be more than 50 % black owned
  • Must have been operational for at least one (1) and a half years
  • Must be profitable with an established client base
  • Show commitment to innovation and technological advancement through the development of a product or service.
  • Companies operating within a competitive industry and who demonstrate factors of sustainable economic growth and development will have an advantage.
  • Innovation in a relatively unknown or untapped industry would greatly boost the possibility of winning.
  • Adherence to good corporate governance and leadership is vital

The organisation, over the last 12 months, must have shown evidence of social responsibility in the following areas:

  • Must be more than 50 % black owned
  • Must demonstrate its involvement in socio-economic development initiatives, projects or programmes in education, community development, job creation and skills development.
  • The entity must demonstrate that it has made a life-changing impact on its beneficiaries which has allowed them to either acquire a skill or become self sustainable
  • Must recognise the importance of contributing to public and community development and the stability of our nation
  • Must demonstrate its percentage towards CSI contribution.
  • Must demonstrate that at least 85% of the monetary contributions were utilised to benefit the intended beneficiaries.

Bestowed on organisations that are passionately and actively committed to the meaningful, sustainable economic transformation of South Africa and have displayed this through:

  • Improved levels of transformation in ownership and management of the organisation
  • A proven employment equity strategy and figures reflecting a concerted effort to achieve real transformation and not merely compliance
  • The development and roll-out of specialised PDI empowerment and development programmes designed to accelerate organisational leadership transformation with an emphasis on women, youth and people with disabilities
